We have to be still for a moment and pay attention to what God is showing us about where we stand. And I am saying this from experience.
When love blinds us, we tend to romanticize potential. We make excuses for patterns God has already exposed, holding tight to who we hope someone will become rather than seeing who they truly are. It is an easy trap to fall into; our hearts are tender, our intentions are good, and walking away often feels like giving up.
Yet not every soul that crosses our path is anointed to walk with us into our next chapter.
We often pray for clarity, asking God to reveal intentions, to bring hidden things into the light, and to show us the way forward. But spiritual discernment is only half the equation—the other half is courage.
If we pray for truth, we must be brave enough to accept it when the curtain is pulled back. Discernment is not meant to be debated; it is given to spare us from carrying unnecessary grief into seasons where it was never meant to live. When God shows us something that unsettles our spirit, we have to take it as an answer, not a challenge to try harder.
What feels like a painful dismissal or a bitter ending is very often simply divine shelter.
Human understanding tells us that if a connection breaks, something went wrong—that we fell short, or that we were rejected. Divine wisdom tells a different story. Sometimes the hand of God closes a door not to punish us, but to place a barrier between us and a future heartache we cannot yet foresee.
Don’t fight to keep what God is trying to gently extract from your life. His removals are rarely about rejection; they are about preservation.
Peace Is Your Compass
The blessings prepared for you will bring rest to your spirit, not constant turmoil and if we have to live in constant turmoil that means that something is wrong.
While every healthy bond takes patience and grace, a God-aligned connection will never require you to barter away your sanity or silence your peace just to keep it alive. If holding on feels like a daily compromise of who you are, it may be time to ask whether you are clinging to a bond whose season has passed.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)
Release the grip. Trust that the silence left behind is not an empty void, but sacred room for God to do what only He can do.
We have to let go of the familiar discomfort and trust God’s quiet direction.
Hands Open
I held the broken pieces tight,
Afraid of what the empty space would bring,
Confusing the shadows for light,
And clinging to a bruised and brittle thing.
I prayed for eyes to truly see,
Then turned away when truth began to speak.
Making excuses, bargaining to be
The anchor for a bond already weak.
How easily the heart defends
The familiar ache of carrying what is gone,
Calling it love when someone bends
The spirit until quiet peace is torn.
Yet mercy worked beneath the grief.
The sudden silence wasn’t cold neglect;
It was a shelter, a swift relief,
A sacred wall the Father did erect.
Not every traveler along the way
Is meant to walk the path where grace resides;
Some doors are closed so we don’t stray,
Some hands unclasped to stem the rising tides.
So now I loosen every plea.
I yield the ache, the wondering, the strain
Trusting God, who rescues me
Who never creates a hollow space in vain.
